Dubai is rapidly establishing itself as a global hub for artificial intelligence (AI), driven by groundbreaking projects, innovative companies, and strategic partnerships, as highlighted by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the UAE.

His Highness emphasized AI’s transformative potential in shaping the future and advancing Dubai’s vision for innovation-led growth. Speaking on the findings of a study conducted by the Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), Sheikh Hamdan revealed that Dubai is home to more than 800 technology companies specializing in AI. Of these, 66% have chosen the city as their global hub to test and implement cutting-edge AI technologies, while 48% focus primarily on AI software development. Notably, 72% of these enterprises are small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) or startups, underscoring Dubai’s appeal as a center for innovation.

Commenting on X, His Highness stated, “Today, I reviewed a Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence study which reveals that over 800 AI companies are thriving in Dubai. They have chosen Dubai as their base due to the city’s advanced infrastructure, progressive regulations, and innovative services, all driven by the city’s plan to accelerate AI adoption. As AI shapes the future, our success lies in making bold decisions and creating a business environment that fosters global excellence. Powered by national talent and global partnerships, Dubai stands at the forefront of technological transformation. The future is Dubai, and Dubai is the future.”

The study highlights significant growth in Dubai’s AI sector, with a surge in companies specializing in AI applications, software, and solutions. The findings showcase how Dubai’s AI ecosystem has been strengthened by strategic initiatives, such as the launch of the ‘Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence’ in April 2024, which provides a roadmap for integrating AI into key sectors. The ‘AI Retreat,’ held in June 2024, brought together public and private sector experts to explore AI’s potential for driving economic growth. Further cementing Dubai’s leadership in AI, His Highness approved the appointment of 22 AI Chief Executives within the Dubai Government in June 2024 to integrate AI into government operations and enhance Dubai’s capabilities in the field.

The DCAI report was unveiled by His Highness at Area 2071 in Emirates Towers and outlines how Dubai’s AI acceleration plan has created fertile ground for startups and global companies to innovate. With advanced infrastructure, forward-thinking policies, and a commitment to fostering innovation, Dubai continues to attract significant investments in AI and stands as a global leader in technological transformation.
