Emirates has announced an AED 85 million investment to install over 200 biometrics-enabled cameras across Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport (DXB). The move aims to enhance passenger experience using advanced facial recognition technology.

The new system allows customers to pass through check-in, immigration, lounges, and boarding gates without showing passports or boarding passes. Emirates revealed that customers can complete a quick registration on the Emirates app for seamless travel.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigner Affairs Dubai (GDRFAD), significantly reduces processing time. The high-resolution cameras can identify customers from one metre away, enabling faster movement through airport checkpoints.

Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer, reported that the project enhances speed, efficiency, and accuracy across Terminal 3. He added that Emirates has been working with GDRFAD since 2017 to adopt cutting-edge biometric technologies.

H.E. Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFAD Dubai, said the collaboration reflects Dubai’s commitment to innovation and digital governance. He highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence and biometric technologies to make travel faster and more secure.

Emirates customers can register for biometric services via the Emirates app, self-service kiosks, or check-in desks. Once registered, travelers can use facial recognition for check-in, lounge access, and boarding.

• Registered customers can breeze through Smart Gates managed by GDRFAD at Emirates Terminal 3.
• Lounge access and boarding are also enabled through facial recognition at dedicated biometric zones.

The airline reported that residents, visitors, and UAE citizens can register and enjoy a seamless journey through Dubai International. The Emirates biometrics system represents another step in enhancing digital travel experiences in the UAE.
