The National Experts Programme’s Artificial Intelligence Track (NEP-AI) is sending 16 Emirati AI experts to Beijing and Shanghai from October 12 to 16 to explore China’s artificial intelligence ecosystem, including research, commercial applications and large-scale deployment.

The five-day international study visit will take place under the theme “AI Governance, Smart Nation Systems and Digital Government”. It will examine how AI policies, advanced technologies and digital systems can support national priorities and improve government service delivery.

During the visit, the delegation will engage with several Chinese technology companies and research institutions, including Zhipu.ai, an artificial intelligence company and research lab; the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT); ByteDance, a multinational internet technology company; AgiBot, an artificial intelligence and robotics company; and Agentrix, an enterprise AI operating system.

Through these engagements, the Emirati AI experts will gain exposure to different aspects of China’s AI ecosystem. Discussions will focus on how advanced research can translate into entrepreneurship, commercial applications and AI deployment at scale.

The visit is part of three international study visits organised under NEP-AI. Together, these visits aim to expose participants to different approaches to AI research, policymaking, commercialisation and deployment across global technology ecosystems.

In addition to the 16 programme participants, six NEP alumni and Fellows will accompany the delegation. They will contribute insights from previous NEP cohorts and participate in discussions and knowledge exchange throughout the five-day programme.

The China visit will provide the Emirati AI experts with an opportunity to examine how AI governance, smart nation systems and digital government initiatives are being approached within another major technology ecosystem.
