The FIFA World Cup will begin on November 20, 2022, and is expected to showcase football enthusiasts and fans with a flurry of stats and match footage on social media. FIFA wants to see info on these platforms from an app that they will launch during the world cup.

FIFA announced that all participants in the finals would have access to their performance data via a specially designed app the organisation’s governing body developed to provide access to analysis and statistics for footballers from all 32 teams.

The idea for the app came after the organization received feedback from the players via the player’s union FIFPRO. This will allow the data to be synched with a video of the action to give a fast assessment of important moments.

Such features are available to players who are part of top clubs and nations who can hire teams of analysts, the motive of the app becomes clear as it will provide such a wide range of data and metrics to teams that have fewer resources.

The application will incorporate feedback from FIFA’s performance analysts as well as monitoring information and physical performance measures including distance traveled, sprint times, and location heat maps.

Footballers will also be able to get images from their matches with stats and data that they can later share on social media.

Johannes Holzmueller, FIFA Director of Football Technology & Innovation said “This player-centric development is based on direct feedback from the players and is another great example of how FIFA is using technology to the best of its potential by improving the football experience for the key actors on the pitch.”

According to Simon Colosimo, the deputy general secretary of FIFPRO, players have requested more accessible access to their performance information. He said

Colosimo said, “The FIFA Player App is a positive outcome that will activate personal data rights and provide a new resource for players at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.”
