Study Mode helps students explore a subject step by step. It uses questions, hints, explanations, and checks for understanding.

A good question can change the course of a lesson. It can bring an unspoken question to light. It can open up another way to solve a problem. It can also help someone recognize what they already know.

Teachers do this work every day. They know their students. They choose how to introduce an idea. They guide learners from a first attempt to real understanding.

OpenAI has now released a campaign and a new course around this idea. The campaign is set in a university classroom. It takes a humorous look at the changing relationship between teachers and students. It also celebrates the role of educators in a world with AI.

What Is Study Mode?

The feature was developed in collaboration with teachers, scientists, and experts in pedagogy. It aims to encourage active participation. It also encourages reflection on one’s own reasoning.

You can learn more on the Study Mode page.

How to Turn It On

The setup takes only a moment.

  1. Open ChatGPT.
  2. Go to the tools menu.
  3. Select Study.

To turn on Study Mode, follow these steps each time you want a guided session.

How Students Can Use It

Students can ask for a specific style of practice. A biology student reviewing enzymes, for example, might type:

“I’m studying enzymes. Ask me one question at a time, wait for my answer, and help me identify what I need to review.”

This prompt keeps the student active. The student answers first. Then the feature helps spot what needs more review.

How Teachers Can Try It

Teachers can also test the feature with subjects they know well. Two checks are useful:

  • Do the questions encourage reasoning?
  • Are the explanations appropriate for the class?

A science lesson on evaporation shows how this can work. A teacher asks students to investigate why clothes dry on a clothesline. Students explore the topic with the feature. Then each student writes their own explanation and a question to discuss in class. They do this without referring back to the conversation.

The teacher can then review these responses. They show what needs to be revisited with the class.

New AI for Educators Course in Portuguese

OpenAI has also launched the AI for Educators course in Brazilian Portuguese. It is available on OpenAI Academy, OpenAI’s free learning platform.

The course is designed for educators in primary, secondary, and higher education. It shows how to use AI to:

  • Plan lessons
  • Create activities and assessments
  • Prepare communications

It also keeps educators’ pedagogical judgment at the center.

Technology can open up new ways to learn. Still, teachers know their students. They ask the most important questions. They help turn curiosity into knowledge.

Educators are invited to explore the AI for Educators course and try Study Mode. Each of these tools can be tested in different teaching contexts.
