LG Electronics has officially opened the Application Programming Interface (API) for its smart home platform, LG ThinQ, enabling developers to seamlessly integrate LG appliances into customized smart spaces. With the launch of the LG Smart Solution API Developer website (smartsolution.developer.lge.com), LG is offering a digital connector that facilitates easy communication between software systems, allowing for enhanced services and smarter solutions.
The ThinQ API is available in two versions: one for individual users and another for corporate partners. The API allows users to control and monitor LG’s AI appliances via popular smart home platforms. For example, the global platform Home Assistant, which has about one million users worldwide, can now integrate 26 different LG AI appliances, including refrigerators and washing machines. This allows users to create fully customized smart homes and streamline appliance control within their existing smart home ecosystem.
For businesses, the ThinQ Business API allows companies to integrate LG’s appliances, commercial equipment like HVAC systems, and signage into their own management systems. This enables office buildings, residential complexes, and other enterprises to enhance operational efficiency by managing LG products through their own apps. For example, large residential buildings can enable residents to reserve washers and dryers or receive alerts for temperature or humidity changes using LG’s sensors.
To further expand its smart home ecosystem, LG has acquired Athom, a leading smart home platform known for its extensive IoT connectivity. Athom’s Homey hub connects over 50,000 IoT devices and supports around 1,000 apps from top global brands like Philips and Aqara. LG plans to integrate Athom’s ecosystem into its AI-powered hub, LG ThinQ On, creating a smarter, AI-driven home that better understands user preferences and delivers optimized solutions.
Kim Kun-woo, Vice President of LG’s Home Appliance Solution Company, emphasized that the launch of ThinQ AI marks a significant step in LG’s efforts to collaborate with both the open-source community and B2B partners. This initiative will help expand LG’s smart home ecosystem, improving the customer experience by seamlessly integrating LG’s innovative appliances into everyday life.
This API release positions LG at the forefront of the smart home revolution, empowering developers and businesses to create smarter spaces with AI-driven solutions and enhanced connectivity.
