The MBRGI Digital Learning Initiative will support digital education for more than 500,000 people across six African countries through a new programme led by The Digital School.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) announced the new initiative, which will benefit communities in Mauritania, Nigeria, Lesotho, Zambia, Namibia, and Angola. The programme aims to strengthen digital learning through sustainable education projects over the next three years.

The initiative includes multiple programmes focused on supporting school education, establishing digital learning spaces, enhancing teachers’ capabilities, and preparing young people for the job market. Meanwhile, The Digital School has signed memoranda of cooperation with relevant entities in the target countries to support implementation.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Digital School, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to expanding its programmes and reaching more students, teachers, and youth in underserved communities worldwide.

He said The Digital School considers digital learning a key driver of positive social development. Therefore, it continues to strengthen partnerships with organisations in the UAE and internationally to advance educational and cultural frameworks while exploring new scientific and technological opportunities that improve lives.

Al Olama also noted that advanced digital learning solutions can help underprivileged communities overcome barriers to education by improving access to quality learning opportunities.

Furthermore, the initiative aims to create long-term educational and developmental impact by introducing flexible, technology-driven learning and training pathways. These programmes are designed to provide students with access to high quality digital education while equipping tens of thousands of teachers with modern teaching methods and digital skills.

In addition, the programme will prepare young people with practical skills and hands-on experience to improve their employment prospects. It also plans to establish 100 digital learning spaces across the participating countries.

The initiative will deliver its educational programmes in seven languages to promote greater inclusivity and wider global reach. Learners will also gain access to quality educational resources and internationally recognised academic references, helping them strengthen their skills and continue their learning journey.

MBRGI was launched in 2015 as an umbrella organisation bringing together more than 30 initiatives and institutions supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. These programmes operate across five pillars, including Humanitarian Aid and Relief, Healthcare and Disease Control, Spreading Education and Knowledge, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Empowering Communities.

The organisation focuses on addressing global challenges by investing in human capital, expanding access to education, combating poverty and disease, promoting tolerance, and supporting vulnerable communities.

The Digital School was launched in November 2020 under MBRGI’s Spreading Education and Knowledge pillar. It provides high quality digital, blended, and remote learning to underserved communities, including refugees and displaced populations.

As the first internationally accredited digital school dedicated to vulnerable populations, The Digital School uses artificial intelligence to deliver personalised, data driven learning plans tailored to individual student performance.

Accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), The Digital School currently serves more than 850,000 people across 40 countries. It offers programmes in Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Kurdish. Through the MBRGI Digital Learning Initiative, the organisation aims to further expand access to digital education and strengthen learning opportunities for underserved communities across Africa.
