Meta has officially launched Meta for Education, making its mixed and virtual reality (MR & VR) education offering accessible to the general public. Educators can now leverage Meta Quest devices and Meta Horizon managed services to bring immersive learning experiences into classrooms.

Transforming Education Through Immersive Technology

Originally announced in April 2024, Meta for Education is designed to provide educators, trainers, and administrators with access to a variety of education-focused applications and features. The platform enables students to engage with subjects through interactive, hands-on experiences that would otherwise be difficult to access.

MR and VR have already demonstrated a significant impact on learning outcomes. In a study conducted across 83 Inspired Education Group schools, 90% of students reported higher engagement and interest, while academic performance improved by 15%. Additionally, teachers found these technologies to be valuable tools, with 85% acknowledging their effectiveness in enhancing lessons.

What Does Meta for Education Offer?

Built on Meta’s enterprise solution for workplaces, Meta for Education offers:

  • Meta Quest headsets
  • A subscription to Meta Horizon managed solutions for education

This package provides educators full control over immersive learning experiences, enabling access to interactive third-party content across subjects like science, history, and language arts.

Beta Program and Future Potential

During its beta phase, Meta for Education partnered with leading institutions, including Savannah College of Art & Design, Imperial College London, Morehouse College, and the University of Michigan. Feedback from educators highlighted improved student comprehension and engagement, with MR & VR making educational content more memorable and effective.

“We’re not replacing things that we can do in person…we’re empowering students to do things that would be out of reach otherwise,” said Dr. Sean Hauze, Senior Director of Instructional Technology at San Diego State University.

With the official rollout, Meta for Education aims to redefine the future of learning, making education more interactive, engaging, and accessible through cutting-edge immersive technology.
