OpenAI announced on Tuesday the launch of ChatGPT Go India, a new subscription plan priced at 399 rupees ($4.57) per month. The company revealed that this is its most affordable offering so far as it looks to expand in its second-largest market.

Global companies often roll out lower-cost plans in India to reach the country’s price-sensitive market. The strategy targets nearly one billion internet users in the world’s most populous nation.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Go India offers:

  • Up to ten times more messages compared to the free version
  • Ten times more image generations
  • Faster response times

The company reported that message limits increase further with higher-tier subscription plans. ChatGPT Go India is positioned for users seeking greater access to the chatbot’s capabilities at a lower price point.

OpenAI also shared the current pricing structure for its services in India. The top-tier version, ChatGPT Pro, costs 19,900 rupees per month. ChatGPT Plus, its mid-range plan, is priced at 1,999 rupees per month.

Earlier this year, CEO Sam Altman met with India’s IT minister and discussed the creation of a low-cost AI ecosystem. Altman recently stated that India is OpenAI’s second-largest market after the United States and may soon become the largest.
