The UAE Cybersecurity Council has announced a warning for users of digital systems and applications in the country. It urged them to update essential devices such as smartphones, laptops, web browsers, routers, and smart home devices. The Council revealed that these remain the most vulnerable to cyber threat, especially when connected to open networks.

In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Council reported that evolving cyber threats make outdated systems a prime target for malware, data theft, and network breaches. It stressed the importance of enabling automatic updates on all digital devices to maintain continuous protection and close new security gaps.

The Council warned that neglecting updates can expose users to serious risks, including:

  • Malware infections
  • Theft of sensitive data
  • Intrusions into internal networks

Cybersecurity experts advised users to take simple but effective steps. They recommended enabling automatic updates, checking device settings, installing security patches regularly, reviewing privacy controls, and monitoring unusual activity.

The Council highlighted that software updates remain the most effective defense against cyber threats. It reported that most attacks exploit known vulnerabilities that could have been avoided with timely updates. Updates, it affirmed, are digital shields that safeguard systems from evolving threats.
