The UAE has launched the pilot phase of its UAE Electronic Invoicing System, marking a significant step towards the country’s digital transformation and modernisation of tax and financial processes.

The Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), organised an awareness event on the Electronic Invoicing System at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre in Sharjah. The event brought together specialists from both entities, alongside private sector representatives and organisations that fall within the scope of the new system.

During the event, the Ministry and the FTA officially launched the pilot phase of the Electronic Invoicing 5-Corner Model. This milestone supports the gradual, secure, and successful implementation of the UAE Electronic Invoicing System across the country.

The pilot phase includes the participation of relevant stakeholders and Accredited Service Providers. Together, they will test the system, ensure technical integration, and assess readiness before wider implementation. Participants also received updates on the next stages of the Electronic Invoicing roadmap and the activation of the 5-Corner Model, which will enable the secure exchange of electronic invoices.

The awareness event is part of the Ministry of Finance’s ongoing outreach programme. It follows two previous awareness sessions held in January and May, both designed to help businesses understand the requirements of the Electronic Invoicing System.

Younis Haji AlKhoori, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, said the launch of the pilot phase and the continued awareness events demonstrate the UAE’s collaborative approach to supporting the private sector during the transition to the new system.

He said the Electronic Invoicing System will serve as a key pillar of the UAE’s vision to build an integrated and sustainable digital economy that aligns with international standards and best practices for transaction accuracy and financial data management.

AlKhoori added, “Launching the pilot phase of the Electronic Invoicing 5-Corner Model represents a significant step toward building a future-ready digital invoicing ecosystem. Through collaboration with businesses participating in the pilot phase and Accredited Service Providers, we aim to create a model that delivers greater value, efficiency, and trust for the business community.”

He also encouraged businesses and entities covered by the Electronic Invoicing requirements to prepare early by selecting an Accredited Service Provider, completing contractual arrangements, and finalising onboarding through the FTA’s EmaraTax platform.

According to AlKhoori, early readiness and active participation will allow businesses to benefit from automation and greater transparency from the initial stages of the rollout.

Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mulla, Director General of the Federal Tax Authority, said the five-corner e-invoicing model enables secure and automated digital data exchange between relevant parties. He noted that the model improves transparency, supports real time compliance, and ensures the accurate and efficient issuance and exchange of electronic invoices.

He said the launch of the pilot phase confirms that implementation of the Electronic Invoicing System has entered the practical application stage according to the approved timeline. He added that the model is among the most advanced globally and strengthens the UAE’s position as a leader in digital innovation.

Al Mulla further said the Electronic Invoicing System supports the FTA’s efforts to improve voluntary tax compliance through secure digital mechanisms. He explained that the system simplifies, standardises, and automates invoicing processes while enabling real time data exchange and more accurate tax return submissions through a framework aligned with international best practices.

He also highlighted the importance of the awareness event, describing it as part of an ongoing series of awareness and training initiatives that provide businesses with the guidance needed for successful onboarding and implementation. He added that the FTA and the Ministry of Finance have undertaken extensive preparations to ensure a smooth transition.

The event covered four strategic themes, including the importance of the Electronic Invoicing System and its direct benefits for businesses, practical implementation methods, technical integration tools, and the economic and commercial advantages of adopting the system.

In addition, participants explored the system’s national objectives, including accelerating digital transformation, improving the efficiency and transparency of business transactions, and reducing tax gaps through accurate and integrated data.

The programme also featured an introductory video explaining the key features of the Electronic Invoicing System, followed by a detailed presentation on its role in strengthening the business environment. A dedicated briefing outlined the onboarding process through the FTA’s EmaraTax platform, before the event concluded with an interactive discussion session involving participants.

The launch of the UAE Electronic Invoicing System pilot phase represents a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation agenda, while preparing businesses for a more secure, efficient, and transparent invoicing ecosystem.
