H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI). The signing, which also included the presence of H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, is part of the Malaysia Madani Artificial Intelligence (MMAI) initiative.
The partnership aims to utilize AI and advanced data analytics to enhance community safety, national security, and operational efficiencies. Key focus areas include developing AI-driven national security systems, establishing high-performance computing data centers, enhancing customs tax collection, and improving operational processes.
The MoU was signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Malaysia’s Minister of Home Affairs. Discussions during the event also explored ways to strengthen political and economic ties while leveraging advanced technologies to improve living standards and drive innovation.
Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “This MoU represents a significant step toward advancing AI-driven innovation and operational efficiency, contributing to the well-being of our societies and improving quality of life. It reflects our nations’ shared commitment to creating meaningful, future-focused partnerships.”
Saifuddin Nasution Ismail emphasized the importance of the partnership, saying, “This collaboration advances Malaysia’s ambitions in the global AI landscape. By integrating cutting-edge AI and advanced analytics, we aim to address challenges like public safety and operational efficiency while benefiting from the UAE’s expertise in technological innovation.” This agreement further solidifies the UAE-Malaysia economic relationship, which saw non-oil trade reach USD 2.5 billion in the first half of 2024, a 7% increase from 2023. Malaysia is the UAE’s 12th-largest Asian trading partner and ranks fifth among ASEAN nations, while the UAE accounts for 32% of Malaysia’s trade with the Arab world.
