The UAE national cyber fraud strategy took a significant step forward as the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Federal Criminal Police Department, held a workshop in Abu Dhabi to discuss the development of a comprehensive national framework to combat cyber fraud. The initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen digital security and protect the community.

The workshop brought together police leaders from across the UAE, senior officers and officials, representatives from the federal and local public prosecution offices, the Central Bank, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), as well as several ministries and partner entities.

During the sessions, participants focused on developing the UAE national cyber fraud strategy by strengthening coordination among relevant entities. They also discussed adopting preventive and proactive approaches, improving response mechanisms, and enhancing protection against cyber fraud across the country.

Brigadier General Abdulaziz Al Ahmad, Director-General of the Federal Criminal Police, said that developing a national strategy marks an important step toward establishing an integrated national framework to combat cyber fraud. He added that the initiative aims to unify efforts, strengthen cooperation among partners, and adopt proactive measures based on international best practices.

Furthermore, Al Ahmad said the expertise gathered during the workshop would help develop practical initiatives and recommendations to support digital and financial security. He noted that these efforts would also strengthen the readiness of the relevant authorities and align with the UAE’s vision of building an advanced and sustainable security system that protects society and its achievements.

The workshop also reviewed global cyber fraud trends, including emerging fraud methods and evolving criminal techniques. In addition, participants discussed the strategic objectives and performance indicators that will support the implementation of the national strategy while addressing the changing nature of cybercrime.

Officials presented the Ministry’s Cyber Fraud Risk Assessment Guide alongside the draft National Strategy to Combat Cyber Fraud. Participants also reviewed the role of the Cyber Fraud Control Centre within the national framework, highlighting its role in supporting prevention, early detection, and effective response.

Moreover, a brainstorming session explored several strategic themes, including prevention and proactive measures, legislation, future capabilities, smart connectivity, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies. The discussions focused on developing national initiatives to reduce cyber fraud and strengthen the country’s overall cyber security efforts.

The workshop concluded with a review of key recommendations, with participants agreeing to prioritise the proposed initiatives for inclusion in the draft UAE national cyber fraud strategy. The recommendations are expected to support a stronger national framework for preventing cyber fraud while enhancing digital and financial security across the UAE.
