UAE digital safety remains a key priority as the National Media Authority (NMA) strengthens cooperation with TikTok to promote a safer online environment for children and young people.

Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Authority, said protecting children and young people in the digital space remains a top priority for the UAE leadership.

He said building a brighter future starts with creating a safe and trusted digital environment that encourages learning, creativity, and innovation while protecting future generations from the risks associated with rapid technological advancement.

During a meeting in London with Jade Nester, Director of Data Public Policy for Europe at TikTok, Al Hamed highlighted the UAE’s efforts to establish an integrated framework of legislation, policies, and strategic partnerships. He said these initiatives are designed to balance technological openness with the preservation of societal values while ensuring strong protection for users, especially young people.

The meeting was held as part of ongoing efforts to build partnerships that support innovative solutions for the rapidly evolving digital landscape. It also aimed to strengthen a safer and more trusted ecosystem for users.

During the discussions, both sides explored ways to improve online safety for children and young people. They also discussed strengthening cooperation on digital policy, platform governance, and the responsible use of advanced technologies.

In addition, they reviewed approaches to creating age appropriate online experiences, enhancing regulatory frameworks that balance innovation with user protection, improving responsible content moderation, and exploring how artificial intelligence can strengthen the media ecosystem through ethical and responsible implementation. These discussions reinforce the UAE’s commitment to UAE digital safety.

Al Hamed said rapid digital transformation creates a shared responsibility for regulators and global technology platforms to develop a balanced model that promotes innovation while strengthening public trust.

He added that building a future ready media ecosystem requires strategic partnerships focused on knowledge exchange, policy development, and the adoption of international best practices in digital governance.

“Through our collaboration with TikTok, we aim to translate this shared vision into practical initiatives,” Al Hamed said. “We are committed to empowering content creators with digital responsibility tools, enabling them to produce positive, purposeful content that enriches society.”

The National Media Authority said it will continue expanding partnerships with leading global technology companies to support a safer and more trusted digital media ecosystem, keep pace with changes in the global media landscape, and promote regulatory and technological best practices. These efforts further strengthen UAE digital safety.
