The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced the introduction of artificial intelligence in schools as a formal subject. The new curriculum will apply to all public schools across the UAE, from Kindergarten to Grade 12, starting in the 2025–2026 academic year.

This initiative aims to give students essential knowledge and practical skills in AI. It supports the UAE’s broader goal of preparing youth for future jobs, encouraging innovation, and keeping pace with global technological trends. With this step, the UAE becomes one of the first countries to embed AI into general education.

The move is part of a larger national strategy focused on digital transformation and future-readiness. It aligns with the country’s vision to become a global hub for artificial intelligence and to build a strong, knowledge-based economy.

To support this rollout, the Ministry is working with:

  • Presight, a G42 company
  • AI71
  • Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence
  • Emirates College for Advanced Education

These partnerships aim to speed up the use of advanced technology in classrooms and support educational development at all levels.

According to Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, introducing AI into classrooms will modernize teaching, develop responsible tech use, and help students design local, smart solutions for future needs. She said the integration reflects the UAE’s forward-looking approach to education and strengthens its position in tech innovation.

The AI curriculum will cover seven key areas:

  • AI foundations
  • Data and algorithms
  • Software use
  • Ethical awareness
  • Real-world applications
  • Innovation and project design
  • Policies and community engagement

It will be tailored by age group to ensure students gain relevant knowledge as they progress.

In Kindergarten, children will explore AI through visual activities, stories, and play.
In Cycle 1, students will compare machines and humans, build digital thinking, and explore simple AI applications.
In Cycle 2, the focus will shift to designing AI systems, learning about bias, and using AI ethically.
In Cycle 3, students will prepare for higher education and work through real-world simulations and command engineering.

The new subject will be added within the existing school timetable. It will not require extra teaching hours. Designated teachers will deliver it under the “Computing, Creative Design, and Innovation” subject.

To help educators, the Ministry will provide full support through detailed lesson plans, activity guides, and adaptable teaching materials. This will ensure smooth integration into various classroom settings.

This development highlights the UAE’s ongoing investment in its people and education system, positioning future generations for success in a tech-driven world.
