WhatsApp Translation feature now available on Android and iPhone, letting users translate chats, groups, and channels across multiple languages with privacy.

WhatsApp has announced the rollout of its new translation feature, giving users the ability to translate messages directly within the app. The company reported that more than 3 billion people in over 180 countries use WhatsApp, and the update is designed to help users communicate more easily across languages.

With the new feature, users can long-press on a message and tap Translate. They can then select the language they want to translate from or to. Once a language is downloaded, it will be saved for future translations. The feature works across one-to-one chats, group conversations, and Channel updates.

WhatsApp revealed that Android users will have the option to enable automatic translation for an entire chat thread. This setting allows all future incoming messages in that conversation to be translated automatically.

The company also stated that message translations are designed with privacy in mind. All translations occur on the device, which means WhatsApp cannot see the content of chats.

The rollout is starting today for both Android and iPhone users. According to WhatsApp, the feature will be introduced gradually in select languages before expanding further.

  • For Android, translations will be available in six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic.
  • For iPhone, the feature will launch in more than 19 languages.

WhatsApp reported that the aim of message translations is to break down language barriers and allow users to connect more effectively. The company confirmed that more languages will be added in the coming months.
