Ericsson predicts 3.5 billion 5G subscribers and 60 percent worldwide population coverage by 2026, indicating a seismic technological upheaval. The magnitude of this technological revolution will unleash a whole new wave of creativity to solve some of the world’s most urgent problems.

Ericsson today unveils its new mission and vision in order to seize new opportunities.

  • Our purpose: To create connections that make the unimaginable possible
  • Our vision: A world where limitless connectivity improves lives, redefines business and pioneers a sustainable future

Börje Ekholm, President and CEO, Ericsson, says: “For almost 150 years our technology has transformed nearly every sector of society. The networks we build have already connected billions of people and soon they will connect almost anything and everything. This era of hyper connectivity is going to help to address major global challenges like climate change and digital inclusion.”

Ekholm continues: “Our new purpose and vision is anchored in the company’s values of respect, professionalism, perseverance and integrity. We remain steadfast in our efforts to foster a culture of integrity by embedding our values into all ways of working. This important work continues, and we are committed to creating greater accountability, trust and respect with our people, customers and stakeholders, while ensuring sustainable success for the company in the future.”

A positive force in society

The ability to connect billions of people has resulted in several social and economic benefits. According to Ericsson’s analysis, digital technology can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% across industries by 2030.

Ericsson’s vision for the future envisions a world where boundless connection enhances lives, redefines business, and ushers in a sustainable future.

“Our vision imagines the future we can help to create for people, business, and the planet,” says Stella Medlicott, SVP and Head of Group Function Marketing and Corporate Relations, Ericsson.

Further said, “Connectivity is key to reducing human impact on the planet and will help bridge the digital divide, but we also see the potential for our technology to touch even more parts of society. This is where things really get interesting.”

Ericsson is debuting a new look and feel for its brand today, as well as a set of of future scenarios that it expects will develop in an era of hyper connectivity:

  • Enabling new ways of learning – by tying every learning institution and every learner together. Future workforces will become increasingly reliant on digital technologies for lifelong learning and upskilling, while mobile networks will ensure that every school, regardless of location, receives a high-quality education.
  • Redefining business – by lowering risk and time-to-market while boosting efficiencies and opportunities throughout the value chain Limitless connection combined with real-time data that flows into design and production processes will revolutionise entire business models.
  •  Reimagining entertainment – through a network of senses that connects the virtual and actual worlds Imagine having real-time game data superimposed in front of your eyes, or being able to hear, touch, and smell real-time game activity from the comfort of your couch.
  • Tackling the climate crisis – by leveraging technologies like 5G, AI, and IoT to accelerate decarbonization, fulfil international commitments, and keep global warming below 1.5 degrees pre dindustrial levels.

A stable, secure, and high-quality mobile network infrastructure remains a prerequisite for all of these scenarios. The 5G platform, which is presently being deployed around the world, is a critical initial step in assisting in the development of this future digital society.

Ericsson concluded its financial turnaround in 2020, met its financial targets, and consolidated its leading position in 5G. Since then, the company has bolstered its targeted business strategy with new growth objectives in both core business categories and emerging enterprise. This strategic path is underpinned by Ericsson’s vision, which confirms the company’s position as a technological leader.
