In a recent report by Innovius, the drone market in the UAE is poised for substantial growth, with projections indicating an increase from $380 million in 2022 to an estimated $950 million in 2030. While prioritizing safety regulations, the multifaceted use of drones, including intelligence gathering and potential security threats, will be a focal point at Intersec 2024. The event is scheduled to take place from January 16-18, 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

The UAE holds a pivotal role in the global drone industry, heavily investing in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology. TechSci Research reveals that Dubai commands a substantial share (40.21%) of the UAE drone market, followed by Abu Dhabi (28.68%) and Sharjah (14.61%) from 2018 to 2023.

Under the governance of the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), concerns about cybersecurity threats and potential misuse of surveillance data have prompted proactive measures. The UAE has implemented robust cybersecurity measures, enacted stringent privacy laws, and actively monitors for breaches to secure its expanding drone fleet. Notably, in January 2022, the Ministry of Interior suspended all drone operations, emphasizing the commitment to responsible deployment.

Given the rising significance of drones for intelligence gathering and their potential security implications, Intersec 2024 will host a Counter Drone Workshop. The workshop, situated alongside the Drone & Anti-Drone Zone, will feature over 200 sqm of drone innovations and cutting-edge anti-drone technologies. Leading defense and security manufacturers, including Skyfend, D-fend Solutions, Dat ConAEE Aviation AxEnd Inc., will showcase their state-of-the-art solutions.

Grant Tuchten, Portfolio Director at Intersec organizer Messe Frankfurt Middle East, emphasized the workshop’s timeliness, stating, “It is a crucial time to host this workshop in the UAE as we delve into understanding the imminent threats, anticipating potential scenarios, and identifying the most pertinent modes of threats. Through case studies and global incident analyses, industry experts will explore methods and technologies for detecting, neutralizing, and, if necessary, eliminating drone threats.”

Marking its 25th edition with the theme ‘Innovating security tech for a quarter century,’ Intersec 2024, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is set to welcome 1,000 exhibitors from 60 nations and anticipates 45,000 global trade visitors. Spanning 13 halls at DWTC, the event will unite key players, facilitate deals, and unveil cutting-edge innovations in the security, safety, and fire protection industries.

Intersec 2024 will feature impactful conference programs and event highlights dedicated to advancing global safety, including the Security Leaders’ Summit (ISLS), Cyber Security Conference, Safety & Health Conference, Fire & Rescue Conference, Thought Leadership Pavilion, Emergency Crisis Management & Communication Workshop, Attack Zone, Safety Walk, and the Future Defenders Hack Arena. The Intersec Awards will honor exceptional accomplishments in critical sectors, while The Premium Club will provide industry professionals with a key networking platform.
