The Shabab AI initiative was officially launched by the Abu Dhabi Youth Council during the Make it in the Emirates 2026 forum, marking a significant step toward equipping Emirati youth with practical skills in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and robotics.

The initiative is sponsored by the UAE Cybersecurity Council and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. It is being implemented under the supervision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Wajeb Volunteering Association. This reflects a broader national approach focused on investing in youth talent to support the future economy and adapt to rapid technological change.

Speaking at the event, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Mohamed Al Nahyan highlighted the importance of developing youth capabilities. He stated that investing in young talent is essential for building the economy of the future and driving innovation across industries.

Moreover, Khaled Al Nuaimi, Director of the Federal Youth Authority, described artificial intelligence as a national priority closely linked to future readiness. He noted that the Shabab AI initiative aims to transform the potential of Emirati youth into practical capabilities that contribute to innovative solutions and strengthen national industries.

In addition, the launch featured a panel discussion with key stakeholders. Participants included Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology, and Khaled Al Zaabi, Head of Platforms and Systems Sector at EDGE Group.

Furthermore, the programme adopts a hands-on approach. It combines foundational knowledge with applied training and real-world projects in artificial intelligence and robotics. Organisers stated that this model is designed to create long-term impact by engaging youth in solving real industry challenges in collaboration with government entities and industrial partners.

The initiative also aligns with the UAE’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 and supports efforts to enhance the In-Country Value Programme. It aims to increase the contribution of local talent while building a knowledge-based economy driven by advanced technologies. Ultimately, the Shabab AI initiative is positioned as a key step in preparing the next generation for the UAE’s industrial and technological future.
