AMD and Aramco Partner to Accelerate AI in Industrial Workloads

AMD, a global high-performance and adaptive computing company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aramco, one of the world’s leading integrated energy and chemical companies. This partnership aims to explore the potential collaboration in evaluating and using AMD’s products and technologies to accelerate the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) for industrial workloads.

The MoU sets a framework for collaboration on advanced technology solutions, with a focus on leveraging AMD’s high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) and central processing units (CPUs). Key areas of exploration include AI and machine learning, predictive analytics, data center modernization, and industrial edge AI deployment. The collaboration will also assess AMD’s ROCm software stack and AI capabilities for optimizing operations and advancing digital twin technologies within the energy sector.

Sami A. Ajmi, Aramco’s Acting Senior Vice President of Digital & Information Technology, highlighted the transformative role of digital and AI technologies in the future of the energy industry. “AI is expected to contribute to the next-generation infrastructure that will power innovation in the industry,” said Ajmi. “Our collaboration with AMD aims to accelerate Aramco’s AI deployment, upskill our workforce, and unlock new opportunities through AI and machine learning.”

Aramco’s digital transformation program, launched in 2017, aims to enhance efficiency, foster innovation, and create new job opportunities. This partnership with AMD aligns with Aramco’s focus on leveraging emerging technologies like AI, big data, and predictive analytics to make its operations more efficient, sustainable, and productive.
