Axis Communications, a leading provider of network security and surveillance solutions, has introduced free text search in AXIS Camera Station Pro, enhancing video forensics with AI-driven search capabilities. This advanced feature allows users to search recorded video using natural language, making it easier to locate moving objects across vast amounts of footage. By incorporating free text search into the Smart Search 2 toolbox alongside pre-classified objects, Axis Communications is redefining how users interact with surveillance video.

The new AI-powered search is based on an open-source foundation model, trained on billions of image-text pairs and fine-tuned for security and surveillance applications. Users can describe objects with natural language to refine searches and broaden results, such as identifying individuals wearing professional uniforms like construction workers or detecting objects associated with specific brands and logos. By combining free text search with filters such as date, time, object location, direction, size, and duration, users can achieve more accurate and efficient results.

This on-premises solution ensures data privacy and regulatory compliance by processing all video locally on the server. The feature is integrated into the Windows client and will also be accessible via the web client.
