Axis Communications, a global network security and surveillance solutions company, has introduced its first environmental sensors: the AXIS D6210 and AXIS D6310 Air Quality Sensors. These sensors are designed to seamlessly integrate with existing Axis solutions, allowing for efficient monitoring of indoor air quality. They detect vaping, smoking, and pollutants like particulate matter, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide, while also measuring temperature and relative humidity.

The AXIS D6210 can integrate with other Axis IP devices, such as cameras and strobe sirens. It works well with Axis speakers, offering a plug-and-play solution for air quality monitoring. The device is easy to set up, as it connects directly to existing devices without needing additional IP addresses, power sources, or switch ports. It can be placed up to 100 meters from the connected device, providing flexibility in installation. The AXIS D6310, available by the end of 2025, operates as a standalone IP network device, offering additional features like a multi-LED strobe for alerts, integrated speaker and microphone, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE)-out, and more.

Indoor air pollution is a global health concern, with nearly 4 million deaths annually, according to the World Health Organization. These new sensors address the growing need for improved air quality management in various environments, including schools, data centers, and manufacturing facilities. Robert Woyar, Global Product Manager at Axis Communications, noted that these sensors are particularly helpful in detecting vaping, which has reached epidemic levels in schools, as well as ensuring precise air quality control in controlled environments.

The AXIS D6210 uses Axis’ PortCast technology, enabling easy integration with compatible Axis IP devices. This feature allows air quality parameters to be overlaid on a camera’s video stream for real-time monitoring. The AXIS D6310 offers even more functionality, including a strobe function, speaker, microphone, and PoE-out capabilities, making it a comprehensive solution for standalone use.

These sensors will help create healthier and safer environments by enabling immediate responses to air quality issues. Alerts and messages from connected Axis IP speakers can clear areas of buildings until the air quality is restored. This system improves operational efficiency and energy consumption while generating valuable data to support long-term planning.

Axis Communications is committed to expanding its portfolio of environmental sensors. The company sees great potential in connecting data from various sensors to enhance health, safety, and operational efficiency across industries. The AXIS D6210 and AXIS D6310 are just the beginning of this initiative. As the technology evolves, Axis aims to deliver even more value through its growing range of IP devices and partnerships.
