Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), a connectivity cloud solutions company, has unveiled a new, one-click tool that allows content creators and publishers to easily preserve the digital history of images across its global network. The tool, called Content Credentials, attaches a digital ‘nutrition label’ to images, documenting their creation, edits, and transformations. This ensures that creators are properly credited for their work, while consumers can easily verify the authenticity and origin of digital content.

Content Credentials, built on the standards from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), offers a way for publishers, creators, and consumers to trace the origin of different types of media. As part of its efforts, Cloudflare has also joined the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), a global network of over 4,000 members led by Adobe, committed to driving the adoption of Content Credentials as the global standard for content provenance and authenticity.

The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has made it easier to manipulate images, presenting a challenge in verifying their authenticity. With highly convincing fake images circulating online, distinguishing between genuine content and AI-generated media is more critical than ever. Cloudflare’s new solution addresses this challenge by providing verifiable information about an image’s creation and alterations.

Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare, emphasized, “The future of the Internet depends on trust and authenticity. By integrating Content Credentials across our global network, we can help media and news organizations verify authenticity and maintain ownership of their work, wherever it moves online.”

Andy Parsons, Senior Director of Content Authenticity at Adobe, praised Cloudflare’s implementation, stating, “Cloudflare’s implementation of Content Credentials at the final stages of content creation and management strengthens the integrity of digital content, supporting content authenticity for news organizations and journalists, and enabling creators to maintain proper attribution.”

Cloudflare users can now easily enable Content Credentials with one click via Cloudflare Images, the company’s image storage and optimization solution. This integration securely embeds metadata that records any image transformations, which can later be verified using Adobe’s Content Authenticity Inspect tool. With this new feature, Cloudflare is driving the global adoption of a critical standard for content authenticity in an era of AI-generated media.
