e& UAE and Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen global satellite connectivity. This collaboration positions e& UAE as the first telecom operator to align with Yahsat’s innovative Direct-to-Device (D2D) technology strategy. The agreement reflects both companies’ shared vision to extend satellite services to conventional smartphones and IoT devices across all geographies. Through this MoU, e& UAE and Yahsat will collaborate on Project SKY, the foundation of Yahsat’s Direct-to-Device service approach.

Project SKY will explore breakthrough solutions that support satellite-enabled voice calls, text messaging, and mobile data for regular smartphones. Ali Al Hashemi, Group CEO of Yahsat, called the partnership a strategic step toward broader collaboration with telecom industry leaders. He emphasized that this alliance marks the beginning of long-term, value-driven relationships supporting Yahsat’s next-gen connectivity vision.

The MoU spans various areas, including technology integration, commercial alignment, and ecosystem development aligned with Yahsat’s D2D roadmap. Masood M. As Yahsat’s inaugural D2D partner, e& UAE will utilize its robust infrastructure to enhance access across digitally underserved regions. Both companies will work closely to design and implement Yahsat’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite system for global D2D coverage.

This LEO system will allow standard mobile phones to connect seamlessly via satellite, without the need for specialized devices. The advanced network will offer uninterrupted mobile services, bridging the digital divide in remote and infrastructure-poor environments. By integrating satellite and mobile networks, the solution promises global reach and reliable access anytime, anywhere in the world. Yahsat’s strategy focuses on empowering everyday mobile devices with direct satellite communication to support modern, mobile-driven lifestyles.
