Fire safety in airports will be a major focus at the Fire Protection and Technology Summit during Intersec Saudi Arabia. The event will take place from 29 September to 1 October at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center (RICEC).

Organizers revealed that King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) representatives will open the summit with strategies to protect air and landside operations. Handling more than 12 million passengers in 2024, KFIA is one of the Kingdom’s busiest gateways.

“The dual nature of airports presents a complex fire safety environment,” reported Yousif Mohamed P.E., Fire Prevention Officer, KFIA. He explained that landside operations manage passenger areas and retail zones, while airside requires safety for fueling, hangar maintenance, and aircraft operations.

He stated that multi-layered prevention includes:

  • Structural and system protection
  • Reliable detection and suppression
  • Human resource readiness

Eng. Hussein Mohammed Rajab, Senior Manager – Fire Prevention at KFIA, will highlight how prevention improves operational continuity, reduces emergency costs, and mitigates risk.

Experts will discuss passive fire protection, suppression systems for retail areas, evacuation planning, foam deluge systems, and rapid-response firefighting teams. The importance of combining international fire codes with local regulations will also be stressed to create hybrid compliance for each airport.

Intersec Saudi Arabia will feature international experts. Terrance Tsang, Chief Fire Officer, Hong Kong Fire Services Department, will present on fire safety in super high-rise buildings under construction. Abdullah Abdulrahman Alrommani of SASCO will address fire protection in fuel stations.

The second day will be led by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The program will explore how global fire and life safety standards support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

Bilal Al Barmawi, CEO of 1st Arabia Trade Shows & Conferences, announced that the agenda will include keynote remarks by NFPA President and Saudi Civil Defense, along with panel discussions and case studies.

Riham Sedik, Exhibition Director – Intersec Saudi Arabia, revealed that the summit will connect Saudi fire safety leaders with international specialists. She noted that the event helps professionals address unique fire safety needs as the country undergoes rapid development.

The Future Security Summit powered by ASIS International Dhahran Chapter will run in parallel. It will cover emerging threats, crisis response, AI innovation, critical infrastructure protection, and diversity in security.

More than 370 exhibitors from 35+ countries will participate, with over 27,000 visitors expected. Intersec Saudi Arabia will be held in Halls 1–7 at RICEC and a purpose-built outdoor area. The event will cover five sectors: Commercial & Perimeter Security, Homeland Security & Policing, Fire & Rescue, Safety & Health, and Cybersecurity.
