Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded its payment options for electric scooter users by introducing the nol Card as a new payment method. This service is now available for electric scooters operated by RTA-accredited providers throughout Dubai, aligning with the city’s drive towards a cashless economy.
Salahuddin AlMarzooqi, Director of Automated Collection Systems at RTA’s Corporate Technology Support Sector, shared that the integration of the nol Card into the electric scooter payment system, especially around key public transport stations, is a step forward in improving first and last-mile connectivity. The move aims to seamlessly link public transport with flexible mobility solutions for a more efficient user experience.
The nol Card is now accepted as a payment method across all authorised electric scooter operator apps. Users can easily purchase packages—hourly, daily, or monthly—by linking their nol Card via NFC technology on their smartphones. To access the service, users simply need to download the operator’s app.
The nol Card, already widely used for public transport like metro, buses, trams, and marine transport, is now also accepted for private transport services, such as taxis, the Nakheel Monorail, and electric scooters. Beyond transportation, it can be used for public parking, retail purchases, and access to public facilities like museums and clubs.
To further encourage public transport adoption, RTA has introduced tailored nol packages, including nol Student and nol Travel Packages, offering discounts and promotions across sectors such as dining, shopping, entertainment, hotels, and airlines.
RTA is also transitioning to an Account-Based System for nol, upgrading from traditional Card-Based Ticketing. This new system adheres to global best practices, ensuring enhanced electronic and financial security. It aims to improve operational efficiency, maximize data usage, and customize services to meet customer needs. Innovative features such as trip planning, booking, and pre-payment through smart channels will further contribute to advancing Dubai’s smart mobility ecosystem.
This strategic move reflects RTA’s commitment to enhancing the convenience and accessibility of transportation options, while supporting Dubai’s vision of becoming a fully cashless and digitally advanced city.
