Howard University suffers cyberattack, suspends online classes in aftermath
Howard University, a private research university based out of Washington D.C. admitted that it suffered a cyberattack on Friday. The university alerted both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the D.C. city government about the incident and added additional safety precautions to protect both staff’s and students’ data.

Don’t use single‑factor authentication, warns CISA
Attackers could pilfer user access credentials through a variety of tried and tested tactics ranging from phishing and social engineering attacks to using brute-force attacks and key logging malware. Once they get a hold of the usernames and passwords then breaching a system isn’t that difficult. CISA, therefore, recommends that switching to multi-factor authentication (MFA), which is a far safer option.

New IIS web server threats eavesdropping on governments and e-commerce sector
IIS malware is a broad category of threats used in cybercrime, cyberespionage, and SEO fraud. “Internet Information Services web servers have been targeted by various malicious actors, for cybercrime and cyberespionage alike. The software’s modular architecture, designed to provide extensibility for web developers, can be a useful tool for attackers,” says ESET researcher Zuzana Hromcová, author of the paper.
